I used to sit at the computer, staring at a blank page. I have things I want to say. I know my material. I can talk to people so well in person. Why can’t I write?!
Then it hits me: I can’t talk until I’m answering a question (or giving a rebuttal).
My name is Katherine. I’m 18, and I live in south Texas. I am a practicing member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love this gospel, this good news. I’m learning more every day, of course, but what I know, I want to share!
I’ve had many opportunities to learn who God is and what He does. I had two years of my life I sometimes refer to as “the lost years,” where I went through health struggles that were so intense and painful, I wished I would die. I don’t have many memories of that year, but what I remember was…less than sunshiny. The following years have not been easy, but due to God’s grace and power manifested in a serious of miraculous healing blessings, performed by worthy priesthood holders, my life and health have changed greatly for the better and will continue to do so. My health struggles happened because people are not perfect and sometimes bad things happen, even if they’re just a kid, like I was. But because God is who He is, He has brought so many good things out of it.
One of those good things is a love for thinking about what truths and promises the gospel holds, as well as how to live the gospel in this crazy world. I give all credit to God, because it is only through the Holy Spirit’s aid in finding that knowledge that I’ve been able to to learn.
Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ speak to us in many ways. The Holy Spirit uses Heavenly Father’s power to make all communication possible. He does anything from whispering Their message directly to our own souls to leading us to others who will tell us—in speech, deed, or writing—what He has already whispered to them. It is all done through that wonderful power of God.
I will succeed only when the words I write here are not my own. My own efforts are not enough, alone, to be or do any good. But if I can repeat the words that God has said—from His own mouth and by the mouths of His servants—then something really good can happen. You can hear Him.
It is my hope and my prayer that this blog accomplishes one thing, in the end: that it is a tool to bring you and me closer to God. That’s it. That’s the whole point.
But really, isn’t that always the whole point?
Much love,
Katherine
